Efren was born in Mazatlan, Mexico into a fishing family. He started fishing on a charter boat with his father when he was just 9 years old and fished for many years with the Star Fleet of Mazatlan. As his younger brothers grew up, he taught them to fish also.

Eventually, Efren and his family moved to Cabo San Lucas where he has been fishing since 1990. Before beginning his career with Guerita Sportfishing, he was Captain on the Bob Marlin. Efren has been at the helm of Guerita Sporfishing vessels for the past 11 years and has earned a reputation of being one of the best charter boat Captains in Cabo. He has been actively participating in all the tournaments that Cabo San Lucas is famous for and has won the Release Division (1st day) in the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament for the last 2 years.

Although the Guerita II is equipped with state-of-the-art fish finding electronics, Efren’s ability to find fish with his bare eyes is utterly amazing. Spotting fish from incredible distances, he has earned the nicknames “Hawkeyes” and “The Fishfinder General”, the latter given him by a long-time client from England. Finding Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado or any of the numerous species of game fish in Cabo is second nature to Efren.

In addition to being a well-qualified and responsible charter boat Captain, Efren also knows the mechanics of the Guerita II like the back of his hand. Efren has the extra advantage of being able to fix just about any problem one can encounter while at sea. Although the Guerita II is meticulously maintained, having the ability to deal with any mechanical failures is an added bonus.
